The Life and Times of Ann Williams (1)

Time to Get Better Acquainted with Ann

I tried to get Ann to write something about her life prior to our meeting, but she declined.  She said “Writing that kind of stuff is your thing, not mine.”   I can’t really tell the story without some of her background, however.   I’m going to use three sources, my memory of the stories she’s told me, a document she wrote for a psychology class at Mount Mercy when he was pursuing undergraduate studies, and her editorial “snoopervision.”   She may not think of herself as a writer, but she’s a brutal editor. So she has the last say about what does and doesn’t go in, especially in this part.  I assure you that anything she cuts out other than typos and grammatical errors will actually be some of the most brilliant and revealing prose ever written in the English language, but you will never see it because she has the right of veto power when it comes to telling the story of her own life.

Two months and ten days after I was born, a baby girl came into this world in Waco, Texas about 65 miles away. She was the daughter of Jeff Robert and Sarah Ann Williams.   They had four children – Dorothy Geraldine (better known as Dottie), Joyce Allene, Sarah Ann (Ann is a junior – more on that story later), and Robert Lee.  Ann is a child of the Great Depression. In her “This is Your Life” project written for the class at Mount Mercy, she tells the story of her entry into the world.  That will be in the next post.
