Designated Fund Raiser
After we had been in Jamestown a couple of years, we realized that we needed some kind of permanent building if people were going to take us seriously. Of course the problem of financing was a big issue.
We contacted a lending firm in Amarillo, Texas about financing our building project. They were willing to do it, but we would have to come up with 20 per cent of the cash before they loaned the money. We needed around $20,000 to get started. We were able to raise some of it among the small number of people in the Jamestown church, but we needed to raise most of it elsewhere. We naturally turned toward the Southwest because we had so many contacts there. Since I had no children in school I was elected to visit churches and make an appeal for one time contributions that would help us get the building program off the ground.
